You will now be providing your own tools and managing your own work in the wetboxes and for glazing. We allow a maximum of 3 weeks for pieces to be saved in wetboxes before they are thrown away. We also allow a maximum of 3 weeks for bisque-fired pieces to sit before they are glazed. Anything else will be boxed up with the potential to be discarded.
As we are really a teaching studio and are not set up for indefinite open studio time (we are working on obtaining another space for that), you must continue to be a student in order to participate in this program. Participation in at least one PPP (Pottery Plus Program) workshop every three months is required.
The PPP workshops will cover a specific technique, but you may also use that time for throwing whatever you want. This is the time for instruction--not during Open Studio. Glazing will not be covered in these workshops. You all have had instruction on glazing, so you will do your glazing during Tuesday's Open Studio (at an additional $10/hour) from 12-8pm. You will have 3 weeks after your pieces are bisque-fired to do your glazing during Open Studio. If you need more time, take your pieces home.
There is no borrowing of ANY tools or glazes that belong to David without special permission. If you are caught taking something without having express permission on that particular day to do so, you will be suspended from the program.
Included with the bag of clay that you purchase is the firing fee for pottery up to 13" wide and 8" high. Anything larger than that will incur an additional fee.
Additionally, some pieces that are fairly thick, wide, or tall may require more time to dry and fire.
There is absolutely no instruction available during Open Studio time--the Thursday and Saturday workshops are the times in which you have an Instructor available for questions.
In order to accomodate all PPP students, Open Studio time is limited to up to 2 hours, unless you have made special arrangements ahead of time.
There is a limited amount of practice clay that will be pugged and available for you to cut, weigh, and ball yourself. Please be respectful of others in the program and only use a minimum amount for yourself.
Open Studio is $10/hour (charged by full hour) and can be used for wheel throwing, glazing, trimming, and hand-building.
As we roll out this new program, you can expect some adjustments along the way as we refine it, but we hope that by structuring things in this way, you will have a little more flexibility for your schedules! Most importantly, as you are granted more autonomy as a potter, we ask that you remain respectful of our space, and the guidelines of the studio. We reserve the right to withdraw your access to the program at any time if our guidelines are not adhered to, you do not clean up after yourself, or you are not respectful of our space and others.
